Providian just upgraded me to Plat.

They're still the worst card I've got, though. At least I didn't get the 29.99%, lower credit line horror deal. But then, I had no balance hehe. This card is not in use BTW.

New terms: No annual fee, 25 day grace, 9.99% purchase rate June, July, Aug, and Sept, go to 16.99%.

I had the typical gold card, no grace, $59 annual fee, 19.80%. I used a 0% BT they gave me back in Dec. then paid it off when it was about to go to the regular rate. I figured it was free money so why not?

How long have you carried no balance? How many years have you had the card before the plat upgrade?

I too have just been upgraded to Platinum with Providian. Although my terms are not changing. (I already had 16.99%, No annual fee and a 25 day grace period on my gold card) I am hoping that the APR will go lower with the Platinum. I think 16.99 is the floor with the Gold.

I wish it was from a better company, but CONGRATULATIONS Breeze.

"Just when you try to get out, they pull you back in."

Providian must be trying to keep some of its loyal customers anyway.

    I wish I could get upgraded to Plat. I get the sense that I won't because 1) I carry a 5k balance on a 8k limit 2) I've had the card only 29 months.

I do have 16.99, but no grace and $59 annual fee.

Oh yes, congrats to Breeze and Thattaway. And to all who Providian is keeping on their "A" to rebuild their credit base into prime.

I had a gold w/ no annual fee, 16.99%, $3000 limit opened in 4/01. I always carried a high balance. They never increased my limit even when I requested-they kept telling me I did not qualify yet. Then in March I received an upgrade to plat. w/ 1000 increase - This was after I paid the card down to $300 balance over two months.

I've had the card 3 years - it was my first card - I carried a small balance off and on to get the CL increases. Haven't used the card - except for the brief 0% deal they gave - in about 2 years. I did have a $20 monthly fee being charged to it automatically, but I cancelled that service a few months ago. Since then nothing.

I never tried to get better terms after the 19.8%, because I really didn't care. I'd rather work on Citi and AmEx - the ones I plan on keeping for the long term.

I only keep it because it keeps my balance to limit ratio looking fantastic. It's a $7,000 CL.

I find it kind of interesting that they want to keep the folks who don't use the card!! The letter said they want their card to be my card of choice. Well, for starters they can take their name off it!!! Then give me a decent rate. I would be happy to use it under those circumstances. ;)

I have had the same experience with them Breeze.. I feel liek I didnt get the APR jacked because I do not use the card.. they seem to give better deals to people who do not carry a balance on it.

Well, from what others have said, they want to keep people with a high credit score - people with a high credit score don't have to pay 16.99%. They have better terms than that, and get better teasers than 9.99% purchase APR for 4 months.

They really don't have a clue. And I would never trust them with a balance, because of the dirty dealings I've heard about. Not that I really trust any of them, LOL, but some have more sense than to jack people who obviously have other options.

How were you notified of the change? Did you get a seperate letter, or was it a notice in the statement, or did they just send you a platinum card?

They sent me a letter: on the envelope it said "account upgrade enclosed - open immediately!"

Awesome letter, nice offer. What is Providian's take on a high credit score?

That's great Breeze! Providian had been getting bashed around here lately so it's nice to hear something good come from them. I'm still stuck with their MC and crappy Gold Visa. I had to use the Gold Visa today for my once a month purchase. I spent $86 at Tower Records. I was so embarassed, I handed the card to the clerk face DOWN on the counter. When he handed it back I immediately grabbed it and threw it in my purse (then proceeded to nervously look over my shoulder to make sure no one was watching LOL....). The cleark probably thought it was a hot card or something! I probably just should of went to the gas station instead.

    MP,

I feel the same embarassment every time I used the card. Its a terrible feeling especially when someone is watching you. I think the best way to eliminated the situation is just use it as a gas card...LOL!

    BTW- Congrats Breeze!

Breeze, did they pull a soft recently on you before sending the offer? How long ago did you receive the mailing?

I just saw AR on Experian for 4/23 or 27 or something - late April anyway. Haven't looked at EFX or TU this week. I will look at them later.
