I have a charge off with them from 1999. Balance-$400. They sent me an invoice, crediting all the overlimit fees and late fees over the life of the account. New balance-$150. HOW 'BOUT THAT!
BUT...they are still NOT giving PRIME customers a chance... SUB-PRIME almost KILLED their business...
dont send them a letter, but request they send you a settlement of x with either full deletion of the tradeline or with a nonrating. full deletion is safer. Tell them you stopped paying because of their predatory tactics.
settlement letter. dumb tonight. you can call them (from a pay phone) and tell them you want it all in writing before you'll pay a dime. If you really had billing disputes you have a legal reason for them to ammend the tradelines on your reports. go for a perfect pay history and then you can retreat to full deletion. have any billing issues with them? ever move and not get your bills? did they sign you up for stuff you didn't order? you get the idea. they need you right now. take advantage. they certainly were willing to do so to you and everybody else
I read a story a few weeks ago about how they were struggling financially. If I remember the story right their stock has dropped below $1.00 Just today they announced layoffs (6% of their workforce). I paid off my balance 3 months ago. Glad to be rid of them... GT
Actually, George, the SEC and FTC have come down pretty hard on Providian -- their subprime solicitations have ceased. The only applications they consider now are from those with scores of 700 or better. Doc
I saw a blurb on the Fox news channel state that Providian is laying off people because 18.2 million customers stopped paying on there Providian credit cards in 2001.
But, once again George, don't you think this has more to do with your $100k in existing credit lines rather than anything to do with Providian's financial trouble? After all, lots of companies who aren't having financial difficulty have turned you down as well, right? Doc
Really? My ex boyfriend who does not have a score over 700 receives their offer for their clear Get Smart card. The firs offers were for a $300 line (Just sign and send back). Now the latest one was for the clear (but it comes in a variety of colors now) card with UP TO $3k line. He just received this offer yesterday. His junk mail still comes to my address. Wait...maybe he does have a +700 score. He does have a few cards (AMEX Gold, Associates, Target, Sears, Macys) all in good standing...humm...
I don't know. I am trying to get them to do the same thing. Take the late pays off and eliminate the trade line. My story is similar.. they closed me because of lates that they helped create by lying to me about policy. I PFB'd them a month ago and they sent me a letter saying they can't reopent the account. I don't want it reopened, I want it to disappear!! I wrote a snail mail letter to someone at their exectuive offices and that was 2 weeks ago but no response. How do I get a deal like yours? I just want to get them off the report.
I've had a Providian card since July 2001. I called and activated it. I have NEVER used it. It does not report on any of my credit reports. I thought that was strange. I guess because it's only a $500 credit line. Do you think I should close it?
Couple of months ago, someone had said... If you go shopping with a Providian Card, PRINCESS... will not date you,...LOL!!! Herman
Well, when the overlimit fees were credited, I had battled with the execs at Providian about their right to charge me "increase fees". Needless to say, I WON. Even though the debate was about 19.95 increase fees, they took it upon themselved to credit $29 and $25 overlimit and returned check fees. Go figure. Here is the latest update: Received an invoice from them today: balance-$0!!! They credited the entire balance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you, LORD!
Love, was this action taken as a result of anything you did? Or was it simply an out-of-the-blue surprise? Doc
I got a Providian clear card a few months ago, my scores range from 500-572. Only a 500 cl, but better than nothing.
