This summer there was a lot of talk about the Providian retention people being able to move people to their platinum product. Does anyone know if this ever happened? My balances with them are paid and I'd like to give them a call today to negotiate new terms.
same here, got the regular getsmart card with a $2550 limit, 0 balance. I want to upgrade to goldor platinum , how should I proceed?
Same here got a cl of 6500 with a 0 balance but i have there regular card and they wont do shit for me!
Well -- I called Providian retention just now. I asked about an APR reduction. The retention rep said he couldn't do anything for me right now because my rate was already at 9.9%. I'd forgotten about this promotional rate. He said the promotional rate would expire in mid-February and if I called back then they would probably be able to do something for me. I didn't ask about the Platinum upgrade, but I will when I call in February. My current gold visa expires at the end of December so I will just see what they send me to replace it in the meantime. I just got a CL increase on my MasterCard, so I didn't bother to ask about it. I'm sure I'd have gotten the 120 day speech.
Dave: How did you get the mc upgrade? regular offer with fee? increase on their own? and how much if you don't mind me asking... I've noticed a bit of change in the increase cycles and so I'm just curious what others are getting. I got a 700 increase instead of my normal 200/1000 free with retention's help... so I'm irritated I got 500 less than normal.
I got a $500 for $49 in the mail which I ignored. Three weeks later I got a $1,000 for $49. I sent in the coupon for the $1,000. When the $49 posted I called and got it credited back. On my next statement I got my normal $200 automatic 120 day increase.
Hey y'all, I think someone has asked this already, but I never followed up, and sorry if this strays a bit from the original post, but... Wasn't there a class action suit against Providian for charging line increases, and why are they still doing it? My Providian acct is quite low, because I always ignore their offer. hth
Re: Providian Retention I called retention about upgrading my card from a classic to a platinum. The rep was shocked I didn't want my account closed, was apologetic for that, and put me through to a rude supervisor who said they don't do upgrades for apr's, line increases or higher cards any longer. I didn't get vocal about it or rude, but my impression is retention has their hands tied. It may be that I am too soft spoken to impress or intimidate. But I don't believe there is any leverage anymore when you say you want to close your account or you will move to another company.
