In July I applied for a GetSmart Visa with Providian, expecting the lousiest offer possible. Yesterday I got a letter...hoping it was for a card I ripped it right open. It was a denial, and it said "insufficient banking history." Not too false, but here's the catch: It didn't say what credit bureau they pulled from. I immediately looked at my reports and Providian pulled NOTHING for this application. The letter I got was dated August 7th (slooooow mail!) so you would think an inquiry from that day or before would have showed up by now? I'm wondering if my age is why I was denied. I was under the impression a creditor has to tell you what bureau report gave them the basis for the denial. Now it appears they didn't even bother to look. Any thoughts? Steph
Call and ask to talk to a supervisor and ask him to explain it for you. While you're at it, ask him to reconsider you application. What do you have to loose? -Om
Where did you pull your reports from? Anything other than directly from the source (ie Experian, Equifax) is delayed information sometimes. I have seen inquiries from Privista and Creditexpert not show up until a week or two after. Millscbs.com is a good reference for which creditor pulls what CRA according to state. You may want to look there to get an idea-and use it in the future before you apply. I would also call and ask Providian. You may also want to use planetfeedback to write a letter pleading your case.
How can they say I have insufficient banking relationships without pulling a report? And I did check directly with the companies and nothing got pulled. I PFd them asking them to reconsider. Steph
