I have two Providian accounts. Finally got around to closing the MC Plt. card with a $1.7k CL. Retention tried to entice me to keep it opened with a 14.99% and to remind me of the current teaser rate of 5.99% until 01/31/2004. I said nope, close it and mail me the proof. On the other hand I did keep my Visa Plt. (CL $8k) opened and got the APR down from 18.99% to 14.99% effective immediately. The retenetion rep. only asked what other rates I have gotten and I rattled off my APRs from my Amex Blue, MBNA Plt. Plus and BofA Plt. So I will keep this opened, mainly for history as it has a 3+ years of perfect payment history. As George sez, a tank of gas or McDonalds every other month just to show activity.
