I read at www.cardweb.com/cardflash/main.html that Providian has begun selling some of it's overseas credit card portfolios. I'm not a Providian cardholder, but thought this bit of news might be interesting. The article went on to say "its U.K. branch will not accept new deposit customers or solicit new loan applications."
