Has anyone had any luck in trying pay for delete with Providian?

I need a phone number to call, is there a charge-off department I could contact?

I received a letter from a collection agency today. Associated Recovery Systems offering a settlement of 50% for my providian account.

Associated Recovery Systems is not even listed on my credit bureau. I just have Providian Reporting the 4 year old chargeoff.

    Any suggestions?

Whats the DOLA for your Providan account? Chances are, if it's 4 years old, the SOL in your state has expired, and the debt is no longer valid.

Check here for your states SOL:

    http://www.cardreport.com/laws/statute-of-limitations.html

Now, if it has expired, you're a real good shape. First off, you can send a C&D to the CA.

As far as the providian c/o account on your report(s), you'll still have 3 years of reporting period left, so you may want to try and negotiate with them (directly), for example: You give 25% for complete deletion of the account. They've already come down to 50% (which BTW is lower than most start out at, and the CA just might realize already that the SOL has expired), so if they're willing to go that low (50%) they'll be willing to take even less once they realize they can't truly even collect on the debt anymore.

    Pulse-
I am beginning negotiations with the collection dept. that Providian sent my acct. to; however, it is a different collection agency from yours- Gulf State Credit. My total debt with them is $723. I sent them a settlement for deletion letter a week ago, telling them I'll pay them a settlement of $200 if they completely delete the tradeline from my credit report. I haven't received a response back from them, but I will keep you updated. I offered them about 36% of my debt as a settlement. I would suggest that you try offering them about 25-30% for complete deletion. Make sure you do it by letter, and not by phone. Return receipt and certified mail. Make a paper trail. Keep us informed!

I contacted Providian by the number above. They are not willing to even talk to me about the debt. They said I must deal with the collection agency directly and hung up on me. I am going to try the planet feedback route next.

    Guess you'd rather pay them.

Providian is a nightmare. My dh had them, and it went to Associated as well, they also never reported. It then went to another CA, FMS and they also did not report. Only Providian.

Providian are mules when it comes to trying to settle a C/O. PVN also adamantly refused to deal with me, saying it was already sent to collections and they would NOT accept any settlment from ME.

I have had this deleted from two CRA's after settlement, but one will not budge.

EXP refuses to investigate the c/o anymore and I now have a pending procedure request with them.

In my experience with PVN, the CA is not the problem with reporting the chargeoff, it is Providian. They are absolutely relentless with not settling for deletion.

You may want to try a complete cease and desist with the CA (maybe validation and estoppel). I am no expert in this area and advise you to check out other posts regarding this issue. But I would try my best to get this account out of the CA's hands and back to the original creditor, Providian. You might have a better chance of Providian agreeing to settle for deletion if they were handling the account, not their CA. Regardless of what you settle for with the CA, PVN will be notified that account has been settled and notate it as "PAID CHARGE OFF--SETTLED FOR LESS THAN FULL BALANCE." If you pay in full, they will just change the notation to "PAID CHARGE OFF."

    GOOD LUCK!!!
