    Hi everyone.....

I've been saddled with a Providian charge-off for a while now and all efforts to pay for deletion have failed. Recently, I tried a different route - I wrote to the account management office and offered to pay in exchange for re-opening of account and/or deletion of negs.

I got a response today that they are reviewing the request and my account. Although it isn't a yes, I am optimistic because I didn't get the routine NO immediately.

Hopefully I have found the Achille's heel of them when it comes to their hard outer shell!

    Tom,

Forgive me if I burst your bubble, but I too received a similar letter from Providian.

Since I couldn't get them to rehab my account...and this was after several letters and phone conversations...I decided to take a different route and pursued getting the 90-day late removed from my credit reports. (At the time, it was still showing on Transunion.)

Shortly after submitting my request, a nice response came in the mail saying that my account was under review and a decision would be rendered shortly.

Approximately two weeks later, I was notified of the outcome. The letter I received stated that, after a careful review of my account, it was determined that all of the details were accurate and could not be changed.

I sincerely hope you have better luck than I did with Providian. I just wanted to share my experience so you would know what happened in my particular situation. Since you owe them money, you still have negotiating power and I hope that works to your advantage.

Good luck and please keep us posted.

    Donna....

Thanks for your input. You are right, I am hoping the $ I owe them gives me some leverage. Did you deal with custoemr service or accounts management?
