I sent a PFB letter to Providian asking for validation and a rep called me over the weekend and left a message. I could hardly hear her and I deleted the message. It was not or is not my intention to aovid them, but I couldn't understand what she was saying? I did not give them my number either in the letter. So what do I do? Wait for them to call back and respond. And if I respond, what do I say?

What is a PFB letter? What did your letter say?

Why are you attempting to validate a Providian account? Have they purchased your balance, and if so was your account in default at the time (that you know of)? I ask because Providian is an original creditor and subject to different standards than FDCPA, the federal law requiring validation of debt (by third party agents).

    Anthony,
Well I guess I screwed myself. The original creditor Providian is attempting to contact me. I am guessing this is what the fone call is about.I sent the request for val to a third party CA and this is what I get. I thought I was doing the right thing.

Maybe you have done the â??right thingâ? if Providian is calling you, that is after sending a validation to a 3rd party agent. Given this new information cheer up; your situation may not be as bad as you think! Consider thisâ?¦

The collections department over at Providian is sort of walking on eggshells right now, following the San Francisco DAâ??s hit against them for predatory practices. It could be that the special handling division at Providian wants to propose some sort of compromise, or at least hear your side of the dispute. Donâ??t worry that you erased the message; theyâ??ll probably call back if my hunch is accurate. But if not youâ??re still in a good position because the validation still needs to be addressed, either by Providian (indirectly) or the collection agent.

So relax, take it a bit slower, and donâ??t worry about things you canâ??t change. [;-)

Thank you for allowing me to smile again. I was freaking out about this. Probably too much! My struggle continues, but I know that in time, things (specifically my credit - LOL) will get better.

I still would like to talk to about American Express. I s there an e-mail address I can reach you at? I really need to get Amercan Express in my corner. As far as Providian goes, it is a VERRRY good time to settle you account for less. I did that with the (borrowed from my credit union) and the have changed my status to relfect paid in full on my reports. All three, I received a letter from their executive offices.

Youâ??re welcome. And hay, youâ??re not alone; â?freaking outâ? is easy enough done when financial issues become overly stressful. Put it this way, you are clearly not in the same boat as some folks Iâ??ve worked with. One striking example comes to mind, when I assisted a man who was so depressed about his debt; he threatened to commit suicide (and I took him seriously too).

Anyway, glad to see youâ??re feeling more positive. Thatâ??s 90% of the battle! [;-)
