I complained to Providian on their website about my limit twice. Each time I got the standard 'We will consider you you for an increase Blah Blah Blah'.

I just got my statement and found out that they did review my file and gave me a 1,000 increase. I got the 3,000 card in 1999 and have never had an increase until now. They did offer to sell me an increase twice but I trashed the offers.

Does anyone know if Providian is still selling accounts to Chase or anyone else for that matter?

Here is some additional info. Today, I received a purchase check for $3200 to be used without a fee but the apr. is still the regular 19.8% rate. I don't know how Providian decided to send me a check for the 3200 amount when I have not used the card in 2 months so there has been no balance. It would seem more normal to send me a 4000 check.

My husband has now complained by email about his limit. He still has a $3K card.

We have never had to pay an annual fee and have always had a grace period.

Congrats to DaveLV for also getting an increase.

Thanks to cma for mentioning that Providian will have a promotion later on in the year. When they do, we are going to try and upgrade to Platinum with $5K limits, 16.9% apr. even if we have to buy the credit limit.

The Chase deal was back in Feb which included their platinum customers w/an average 4yr membership. They just finished a deal to dump their subprime accounts and are focusing on retaining and aquiring the mid level to prime market. So, if you didn't get the Chase letter, an APR increase or the new letter you're probably stuck w/Providian.

After reading these posts, I just checked our account online.

They just increased us $1000 too. Totally unsolicited.

And for $8600 at 23.99%, sure we might make a big online or phone purchase with it....but carry a balance?? In their dreams!

Our Providian bills arrived in the mail today. My husband pulled the same routine I did last month and we just discovered that he got a $1,000 increase to $4K.

I was shown a newspaper article about Providian that indicated that they are taking no more subprime customers. Apparently they are starting to upgrade customers again.

    Our interest is still high.

I wonder if they will ever get into the PRIME market???

I WAS SO TICKED WHEN I WAS DENIED THE "GO-TO" 9.99% GET-SMART CARD!!!

I was confused when I learned that they DON'T WANT PRIME CUSTOMERS!!!

We went the EMail route from the Providian website as there was a lot mention that when you call on the phone you will be told "NO". Worse, Providian was cancelling accounts when customers got testy with retention. The reps were probably told to cancel them in order to improve Providian's financial position in front of the Feds.

I would love to hear that someone calls them and gets an increase but I don't think it's in the cards for a while. The 2 polite EMails by a customer probably sends your file to a supervisor for a review.

Good luck when you ask for an increase. Let us know what happens.
