Sent my providian payment and 4 others off in plenty of time, before the due date. Mind you providian goes 350 miles away, the others across country. Checked my available credit, shows 35.99 overlimit fee and 35 dollar late fee! I gave them a call, asked for a one time courtesy, since I have had the acct over 2 years, never late or over limit. They removed both charges! I couldn't believe it!
Same thing happened to me in 97. They changed the due date on the statement by 5 days. I always sent the check on the same date, so now it was "late". Check your credit report. even though they refunded the late fees to me, it was still reported as 30 days late. That long ago I don't think it is worth trying to dispute, but it does show up. Because of this I went to paying all credit cards online and print the confirmation page for a record of when paid. Also by paying online, I can lower utilization and my score has risen over 60 points. I use the credit cards a lot and pay them over 3000 a month. I used to get the statement and then pay them. I found that the credit card companies report the ending balance of the statement. Now I can pay before the statement closes instead of after and the utilization is lower.
I ALWAYS PAY ON-LINE IF AVAILABLE... Most post "THAT" day or with-in 72 hours... If not available...7-10 days is a GOOD RULE OF THUMB... COAST TO COAST 5 DAYS MAX...but when it gets to the processing center...WHO KNOWS??? My mortgage payment goes to OK from CO and it can take up to 10 days to post...in the mean time all the credit card checks that I mailed to the EAST COAST have been credited and my bank has charged them to my checking account BEFORE THE MORTGAGE PAYMENT IS EVEN POSTED!!! What is STUPID about that is SOMETIMES it posts in 3 DAYS!!!! I called and asked "IF" they are "HOLDING" payments LOOKING TO MAKE LATE FEES...THEY HAD NO ANSWER!!! "We don't process any payments here at this phone center" ...and they do not take ON-LINE payments or MONEY GRAM payments!!!
