Is there a certain phone number I should call to ask providian to waive my annual fee?? I have the customer service # on the back of the card but it seems like maybe this would be a different dept. that would be better to handle this. I dont want to call retention. Thanx

I had to threaten to close the account to get the $59 annual fee credited.,And i have had the account for 3 years..They hate giving back any monies..The lowest i could get them on the apr was 16.90%

16.9% is still a very good rate, considering how badly Providian wants to charge the normal rate of 23.99%...

To put it another way, my Citibank classic MasterCard has no annual fee and a 15.9% APR. To get almost the same terms from Providian constitutes a great victory.

Yeah... but why does it always feel like it's such a pyrric victory??? Whenever I get anything from Providian, I feel worn out by the time I get whatever I asked for.

Marci, you feel worn out by Providian because you are running through a cultural gauntlet designed by Providian to cause fatigue which results in you giving up when you are seeking improved terms and conditions.

If this was a prime card your leverage to open a new card with another lender would cause Providian to treat you as a human being.

I must say Providian has treated me well..I have been with them for 38 months and there the ones i been with the logest on report. So this is why i am staying with them.Customer service has been great except for once and i chewed him a new hole..The 16.90% rate is also for cash advances too, But i dont hardly use that option.,And my limit is $5,444.00 and i have ripped up a couple of there $1,000 increases for the $49..I have just recently gotten 2 new cards..Discover at 16.99% and $6,000 limit and National City Gold with a $4,000 limit and there is the best apr yet at 13.24% Variable..Well these are all my wifes accounts really..It took her a lot of inquires to get those other 2 cards everyone else denied her..Just want to get a card to put all her debt on with one low fixed apr of 11.99% or better but i think we would see god first.,
