WELL, PROVIDIAN RAISED MY APR TO 19.25 PLUS THE PRIME RATE. I HAD BEEN 16.9, NO DEROGS, EVER. I WAS TOLD BY CUSTOMER SERVICE IT WAS A BUSINESS DECISION AND NOT A REFLECTION OF ME AND HOW I HANDLED MY ACCOUNT. THANK GOD FOR PROVIDIAN'S HONESTY. FOR A MINUTE THERE I THOUGHT I WAS BEING BAD! **** THEM!

How did you initially find out?? I ask because I almost never read the statements (bad practice) since I pay to frequently with online bill pay which has very limited info about your account.
I think I would have to make a business decision myself, under those circumstances. I don't use my Providian card anymore anyway.
The same thing happened to me. they sent a new terms of agreement, that would increase the APR. Mine was at 16.9 no derog. But I had until 3/02 to accept or decline the agreement. I declined by the 3/02 and closed my account. So my current APR still remains at 16.9. I've learned to now read those inserts that are put in the billing statements every month.
Amazing, they are giving some platinum cards, and raising the rate on others!! Do you have anywhere to transfer the balance? If not, they gotcha.
