I need some help please. I applied for the Providian Card back in June. When i received the card and all the fees that came with it, I had the account closed.(a month later) I took a look at my Equifax report and it states that I am 31-60 days late on a payment to them. I have never used this card or paid any of the fees! What can I do to get this inaccurate information off my report?

    TIA

JUST DISPUTE IT WITH EQUIFAX FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS THAT CAME WITH THE REPORT.
    CHECK TRANSUNION AND EXPERIAN ALSO.

Unfortunately, this info is not inaccurate...
Once you applied for the card, you agreed
to all the fees. So you owe them the fees
now. It doesn't matter if you never used the
card, you agreed with the fees when you
    applied.

You can try to dispute this, but I think
it will come out as verified...

On the other hand, if you can prove that
the fees weren't disclosed to you when
you applied, then maybe you have some
fighting ground.... but if you applied by
mail, or online, I'm sure the fees are stated
    somewhere, in the small print...

    NEGATIVE!!!!!!

I just contacted Providian and the rep. stated that they will update the account ASAP and forward me a letter describing the inaccuracy of their false reporting to the CRA's. So keep in mind, even if you apply for these cards and later realize that they are a crock of @!#$. You can always cancel it BEFORE using it and receive a full refund.

I don't think you're obligated to take the card until you actually use it. When you apply, they don't tell you what you're limit is, so you have no way of knowing what exactly you're applying for. If you are unhappy with the terms, ($100 limit, 99 processing fee, $59 annual fee would be a good example) you aren't required to accept the card. I can't gaurantee this, but I do believe this is the way it works

I think it has more to do with whether or not you activate the card. While I'm sure most companies would waive the fees if you asked them to, it's probable that they don't have to.

Normally, you are given the terms and conditions of the agreement before you even apply for a card, and you usually agree to those terms and conditions when you apply. However, if I remember right, back when I applied for a Providian card, applications were accepted by phone rather than online. The terms and conditions were not disclosed to me until after I was approved for the card.

I do recall asking the guy who took my phone application about the interest rates, and he didn't know. He was probably working for a telemarketing firm with whom Providian had contracted. It's likely that he not only took Providian applications but also worked the porno and psychic lines at the same time.
After he took the data and told me I was approved, he played a recording of the terms and conditions. Consequently, I didn't know the terms until AFTER the fact. I'm sure this has improved over time with the online application process.

Well, I'm glad that I'm wrong... just
make sure you get that letter, and check
with the CRA to see if they removed it.
