I subscribe to a daily monitoring service and a few days ago it reported a Public Record, collections $ 605 and listed receivables performance manage as the Reporting Court name. I found RPM collections on the internet and called them. They told me I was one year delinquent on Sprint account. I closed my Sprint account in Jan, 2003. I asked why I hadnt received any notices and when she asked to verify my addrees, they had Chicago ,Illinois and I have alwys lived in Michigan. I then called Sprint and explained the situation and the customer service rep said they would get back to me in 48 hrs. I had to give them my home phone number since it wasnt on file. She agreed with me that I had benn a member of Sprint from 1999-Jan 2003 in good standing and that my account was closed in Jan, 2003 with no balance owing. Someone from Chicago opened my account back up in July 2003. Needless to say, nobody called me back in the 48 hrs she promised and I called Sprint back today and they turned me over to their fraud division. They are sending out a fraud packet for me to fill out. I have a feeling Im going about this the wrong way. How is this going to be resolved on my credit report? Is it going to say that they credited the balance that I owe due to fraud or identity theft? Isnt this going to be worse on my report than the 605 debt? Any suggestions will be appreciated.
When Sprint receives and verifies the fraud information, they should delete everything as a fraudulent account.
A fraud alert *MAY* appear, depending on whether you have to dispute the account. Keep in mind, that a fraud alert really doesn't do anything then request that a potential creditor double check your identity, when you are applying for credit. That's it. And it is only short-lived, for about 3-6 months, usually.
Thank you for your reply. The only fear is not knowing. I have been monitoring this site for some time now. After this public record appeared, I decided to clean up my CR based on what Ive gathered from this site. My CR is fine, except for a number of 30 day lates on 8 different accounts. I have 18 yrs credit experiance, so I dont think they hurt me that much. I disputed everyone of them on Experian to see what if anything will get removed and if it will have any effect. MyFICO. com makes it very easy to dispute for Experian. Little tougher to dispute for TU online and I guess I just hae to send separate disputes for TU (not available online @MYFICO). Thanks again. Ill let you know what transpires.
