i am trying to help my fiancee fix his credit. He has a public record showing for an old gas bill from 4 years ago in a low amount ($200.00) that he knew nothing about. HE moved a month before his roommates they app. never paid the gas bill in his name. anyway...my question is this:
is the best thing to simply pay it to the origanl company listed.

If paid does it get removed or still show only with a Paid description. IN other words what happens once a public record is paid.

It will remain on CR for 7 years from the date the record was entered into judgment. When paid it should update to PAID Status, but will not come off until 7 yr reporting period is up.

EXCEPTION: Some states (NY State for ex) allow removal of PAID JUDGMENTS after 5 years
