First question, If you pull your own credit report does it count as inquiry? 2nd, How do you all keep pulling your scores without being charged? or are you being charged? Equifax in particular.
No, it does not count against you. It will only be shown on reports that the CRA furnished to you. I don't know, I always pay for mine with Equifax. Experian, I subscribe to Credit Expert, and their score comes with the membership. Transunion, I dunno.
Question 1: No, it does not show as an inquiry. Well, it does, but it shows as a consumer disclosure which does not matter for scoring purposes. Question 2: a. There are some folks who repeatedly sign up-cancel-sign up again with 30 day free trials to get free reports and scores. b. I've heard of a couple folks doing rolling disputes with TU on things they know will verify, because TU sends you a free score with the update report they send after your dispute is over. c. Equifax offers a $38.95 product that offers you 4 copies of your credit report and score. d. Then of course, with Experian, there is Credit Expert. $79/year, get your score/report as many times as you want. Personally, I subscribe to Credit Expert, and Equifax Score Power 4 time thing, and then I spend the $9 and pull a copy of TU once a month. Overall I'll spend a couple hundred bucks this year keeping updated on my credit score. Which is silly, I know, but I need updated information to see how my repair work is going. The nice thing is, the amount of money I spend watching my reports now will end up coming back to me with lower interest on future car loans and mortgages--that's how I justify it. -- cnswift
