Pulling reports bring down score

I called the FTC to find out once and for all whether pulling your OWN report brings down your score. After speaking with other reps, he confirmed that it does depending on the CRA and the scoring system.

Does anyone know how often you can pull your own reports without negatively affecting them?

    Thanks Guys and Gals!

    ALL of it.

Pulling your own report does NOT affect your score.

    George...

I know that applying for credit hurts your score, but I have spoken with other credit experts who say pulling your own report brings your score down also, unless you are using credit expert or something like it where you can pull your reports every day for a fee...

    Who?

I shall like to chat with them.

    :)

752 is a great score. Try pulling 2 or 3 times and see if it drops.

"Credit experts?" Would those be creditors who don't want you to pull your report and correct errors before they get their exorbitant rates out of you?

Any time you pull your own report it is a soft inquiry, and those don't count against you.

Well...Butch, the people I have spoken with are other personal friends, lawyers and accountants, so I don't think they want their names revealed, but, I would like to try an experiment: since the FTC told me this, maybe one of you could call and see what they tell you...??

I was just told by someone at credit expert that the reason we can't see soft inquiries, is that all inquires will be hard except when we pull our own report. I ask what about credit reviews by current ceditors and she they would all be hard inquiries. If that is right everyone's score will tank.

I get it...I get it!!! Thank you for answering the question... I didn't realize it would open a vein! This is better for me if it doesn't affect me... Thanks for the advice....

I decided to ask Creditnet because I get the best advice here.... Now I will take it back to my friends.

By the way, thanks guys... with your help, I got my mortgage a little while ago... couldn't have done it w/o your help... and i got an AMAZING rate too with 0 points!

Re: Re: Pulling reports bring down

The following inquiries are "soft" or involuntary inquiries and were generated for a number of different reasons. These inquiries reflect either your request for your own credit report or a company considering you for an offer of credit, such as a credit card solicitation. These inquiries do not appear on the credit report that lenders see. They are displayed here for informational purposes only and do not affect your credit score. A legend for the Type of Inquiry appears below the list.

    Seriously though Atiyana.

I would like to call them. I'm not trying to be mean or anything. Just talk to them and get their feedback for their rationale.

    Email me if ya want.

    :)
