Quantum MBNA, how to apply?

Already had a PLATINUM PLUS traded for QUANTUM...$10,000 minimum.

 

I think you have to have a solicitation to apply, or have a platinum card to upgrade.

It also says on the web page that if you didn't receive an invitation, but you think you might qualify, you can call 1-800-343-3246

I applied for Quantum Card over a year and they denied me because insufficient income. They told me that I could upgraded my Garfield Platinum Plus Card to Quantum. They pulled credit from TransUnion.

My SO CALLED upgrade was CONDITIONAL on NO inquiry.

All I got was 2% lower rate, $10.00 less BT fee, and a BT of 1.70% for 6 months or so...

 

How much do you have to make to qualify?

They don't tell me how much income to qualify for Quantum Card and they offer me to upgrade from my Garfield Platinium Plus Card.

I went to www.mbna.com and applied for a personal line of credit. In the app it asks how much you want. I said $10K. The credit analyst called my job 15 minutes later, we talked about my reason for asking for the $10K, and he approved me right there.

He did ask whether I wanted the "gold reserve" revolving loc or the "gold option" installment loc. I picked the Gold Reserve loc. The next morning, after the loc showed up in the CS system, I called their "Tele Sales" dept at 1-800-852-4139 to convert the loc to the Quantum Rewards Mastercard.

The Quantum trade and account number was on my Trans Union report a week later.

They pulled Experian for me and I usually have Equifax pulled for my inquiries.

I live in the deep south, and Equifax is the CRA of choice around here.


There is a difference wrt which loc you get approved for. I was told by Customer service that the Gold Option (term/installment) loc CANNOT be converted to a credit card - b/c it is a term account. The Gold Reserve loc CAN be converted b/c it is revolving. One person mentioned here having to convert the option to the reserve first in order to eventually convert to the quantum.

I don't know if the credit requirements for the loc are different than those of the Quantum Mastercard. It just depends on the analyst you talk to and on how your credit report and debt burden looks. I was denied for the Platinum Plus card a week after being approved for the Quantum (both apps were done simultaneously). Maybe they saw the Quantum cl and decided that I had enough credit. They are right. I make less than $40K a year and I'm close to $50K in available revolving credit.

People from this board was applying Apple Instant Loan (Gold Option Account) from MBNA and once approved they combined with another Platinium Plus MC into one. Then they uprade Platinum Plus card into Quantum. By the way, Apple Instant Loan is instantly approval.

Apple Instan Loan pulled credit report Experian.
Once you got approved and called the customer service. You reuqest to combime LOC with other MBNA Platinum Card into one and upgrade the account into Quantum. Mine is just upgraded from my Garfield Plat. Plus Card. The minimum credit limit for the Quantum Card is $10,000.
