If a validation/dispute letter is sent to a CA in response to their demand for payment on a debt that does not even appear on any of my credit reports, is a hard inquiry by the CA something that I can have removed?

I did use LizardKing's letter that told the CC not to do anything to mess with my credit report or I will take remedies, but I'm wondering about the potential for a hard inquiry.

LOGIC WOULD DICTATE...if you are not applying for credit, they have no right to do a "HARD" inquiry...

Thanks. Forgive me for not being logical. I'm a bit overwhelmed at the moment and trying to sort these things out.

Yes but Logic doesn't always apply. There are many collection agencies that do put hard inquires on your reports and claim it is a permissible purpose and they get away with it. It is usally referred to tainting a report and many posters have had this done to them.
