I have 2 charge offs on my credit report that are over 2 years old. These are really imparing my credit score. My score through equifax is 585. What would be the best possible way to attempt to remove these from my file? Should I send each bureau a dispute letter? Thanks for the help....I really hope I will be able to get these removed. Thanks
I'd start by disputing with the bureaus. Because they're only 2 yrs old, they'll probably verify. (But you never know. I had a 2-yr-old charge-off, disputed it with Equifax, Equifax overlooked it and didn't investigate, so I got a supervisor to delete per the FCRA.) Don't give up. Sometimes it takes several bureau disputes before the item is deleted. Find something new to dispute each time to avoid being labeled "frivolous". Also, try the nutcase series for paid charge-offs. These can be very effective. Scrivener
I have a 6 year old paid chargeoff which has a very small impact on my score. When I dispute it on Equifax, my score goes up about 15 points. I am not sure what the case is with 2 chargeoffs that are 2 years old. Mark
Scrivener, Thanks for the reply. Can you point me to the direction of this nutcase series stuff. Also, when i do write the bureau's should i get them to validate it first or should i just go straight and dispute it? Thanks, wish me luck
Also, what is a good score to shoot for to get a new car loan with a low interest rate? I'm about to get a new car and want to know what a good score to shoot for. Thanks
