I aksed about this on CB and got two pages of bumps, but never an answer. Wondering if you guys could help me please.

I have a a TL showing on my report for the last several months as 120+ late from the OC with a cerain account number.

A few days ago, I pulled my reports and noticed the exact same tradeline being noted as a charge-off with a different account number, from the mother company of the previous OC.

Both are for the exact same ammount, same OC (but different names) so it looks as if i have 2 negative tradelines on my account, one at 120+ past due, and one for charge-off.

I called the OC and asked them about this, and after much transfering and being told "I don't handle those accounts" I finally spoke with someone who did confirm that these were definately the same tradeline. This person explained that when the account charged off, they gave it a different account number, so it's reporting as two different accounts. The said the accounts should combine and report as one on their next reporting cycle, which could take from 30-90 days. (I did memorialize this conversation, btw).

This account is within SOL, so I don't want to push it, but at the same time this can't be legal to have the same account show twice with different account numbers, can it?

Please advise how to handle this.

I would dispute "not mine" and a duplicate of ABC

Dispute the other one to not mine duplicate of CBA.

I actually had a similar happen with a CO from JC Penney's. TU deleted both :)

Good luck and congrats if you get the duplicate deleted so easily. I have been fighting this for 4 months with Wells Fargo, same situation but there is no CA involved, just OC reporting account as BK and reaffirmed (it WAS reaffirmed). No matter how many faxes or phone calls I make to WF or to Equifax, they verify as "accurate."

Get the statement from the OC/CA on their letterhead stating the exact account numbers that are appearing as duplicate on your reports and that the one with "such and such" account # is a duplicate and needs to be deleted, and then send the statement to the credit bureaus so it will be properly deleted. I can't get the statement on letterhead from WF.

Calling the AG's office on Monday if my last attempt today does not work.
