Is it true, that if I settle past due medical bills and the provider accepts this as payment in full, they can no longer report these accounts to the CRA because I legally don't owe them anything anymore?

If I understand the HIPPA laws correctly, they state that the only reason a healthcare provider can report or share information with a third party without your permission is when a debt is owed?

If you pay them with the following notice, you will achieve your purpose.

Otherwise, they will just turn the payment over to the collection agency who will be allowed to continue reporting.
