Is it true, that if I settle past due medical bills and the provider accepts this as payment in full, they can no longer report these accounts to the CRA because I legally don't owe them anything anymore? If I understand the HIPPA laws correctly, they state that the only reason a healthcare provider can report or share information with a third party without your permission is when a debt is owed?
If you pay them with the following notice, you will achieve your purpose. http://community-2.webtv.net/YCHANGE/STORAGE/page14.html Otherwise, they will just turn the payment over to the collection agency who will be allowed to continue reporting.
