I'm helping a friend with her CR's and it looks bad! She has these huge balances that are within SOL. I don't want to advise her to dispute and the she gets judgements. So this is the question: If she owes money to every Tom, Dick, and Harry including Uncle Sam (that's right...she owes IRS) will a judgement not likely happen? Will a court not grant a judgement if the creditors tried?
yup, your friend should go underground and stay there, except for the IRS. Don't mess around with them. She should contact them and make arrangements, if she hasn't already. They can be very nice if you go to them. If they have to come find you, they are not so nice.
Thanks I thought so. She has contacted IRS and they are waiting for her to file 2000 taxes and then setup payment arrangements. How does she avoid these taxes being placed on her CR? By making arrangements and sticking to them? Or do they place delinquent taxes on CR for all people?
When it happened to me, they put a tax lien on my credit report. And those stay there for 7 years from the date paid!! I said "a tax lien" it was 2 tax liens, and EFX is reporting them twice. They won't come off until next year.
The IRS has not placed a lien on my cr, even though i owe quite a bit. I pay my monthly agreement with them and they have let me alone. tell your friend to make sure she pays them, do not default on payment agreeement. she might also want to look at past years returns and make sure she has taken every deduction she is entittled to. Are the other amounts, cc debts, medical or other, because if it is medical, she may have a better chance.
