    Hi,

I am new to the US and not too sure how the US system works in regards to getting credit cards and bank accounts and such. I use to live in FLorida 5 years ago, and had an AMEX PLAT/COMPUSA/ and CAP1. The Amex and COMPUSA were all paid in full and never late. THe capital one card had a balance that i totally forgot about and just recently I made a settlement with the CA. On my CR it shows a charge-off delinquint on file. My scores are 560 for Equifax and 630 for TU. I tried to get a credit card but was denied. I am also wondering..I am a student and get a $2000 allowance/month from my parents and currently am unemployed. Is the unemployment deferring me from getting a card? or is it my score and derogatory info on my CR? Also, If I write my parents business as my employment on the credit app would they know its bogus??

Thanx...any info would be greatly appreciated:)

There are some CC companies which will deny based on any negative information, no matter whether it is paid or unpaid.

When you are declined, you should be provided a letter stating why you were declined, this is the only way to tell why your account was declined.

If you are a full-time student, there are student cards available. They are usually easier to qualify for. Citibank issues them, I don't know who else, but I would think most of the major companies do.
