Hi, I am new to the US and not too sure how the US system works in regards to getting credit cards and bank accounts and such. I use to live in FLorida 5 years ago, and had an AMEX PLAT/COMPUSA/ and CAP1. The Amex and COMPUSA were all paid in full and never late. THe capital one card had a balance that i totally forgot about and just recently I made a settlement with the CA. On my CR it shows a charge-off delinquint on file. My scores are 560 for Equifax and 630 for TU. I tried to get a credit card but was denied. I am also wondering..I am a student and get a $2000 allowance/month from my parents and currently am unemployed. Is the unemployment deferring me from getting a card? or is it my score and derogatory info on my CR? Also, If I write my parents business as my employment on the credit app would they know its bogus?? Thanx...any info would be greatly appreciated
There are some CC companies which will deny based on any negative information, no matter whether it is paid or unpaid. When you are declined, you should be provided a letter stating why you were declined, this is the only way to tell why your account was declined.
If you are a full-time student, there are student cards available. They are usually easier to qualify for. Citibank issues them, I don't know who else, but I would think most of the major companies do.
