I tried to research this using the search feature on the board and had no luck. What is the best way to dispute with Transunion. It would be easy to do it on the web site but I also see a lot of people using the traditional method where you would send a letter. I have one item a paid account that has been deleted from all my credit reports but trans union. Should I send them a letter disputing the charge or should I just go to transunion investigations web site, does it make a difference ? The account is from about â??04 as well so what kind of impact does a paid account from â??04 have on your credit score monthly?

I would recommend using the website dispute function, for simplicity. Just be sure to print hard copies of your dispute. Also, be sure to detail your dispute reason clearly. The CRA websites have a list of dispute reasons, and your may not be an exact match.

You may want to dispute in writing if there is some detail where you need to include evidence to support your dispute. If you do use a written letter, be sure to send Certified Mail Return Receipt Requested.

The online dispute functions might be simple, just marking appropriate boxes, but does not give you too much room for explanations/providing more data or information.

That depends upon what is wrong with the entry. Would need more details to comment.

You will need to examine every "data field" on the tradeline and see if there is any "inaccurate and/or incomplete" information to dispute.

Often the most critical lacking information is the "Date of First Major Deliquency", this is a required information field, but is often "defaulted" to a "Date of Last Activity" or extrapolated by the CRA. You can dispute the missing DOFMD if missing.

Check all information posted, and review each item. Dispute anything and everything that is inaccurate and/or incomplete.

Here is the way this thing is reflecting on my true credit. My approach was going to be that I paid the original account holder which was Dish Netw.. That it did not go into collections atleast to my knowledge and I got verification from them that my account is in good standing prior to disputing and I paid dish network not the collection agency. Again, thank you for your help with this. By the way the I just put xxx ove the first three slots but they are filled out on the report

    Creditor Name: xxxxx
    Account No.: xxxxxxx
    Original Creditor: xxxxxxxx
    Responsibility: Individual
    Condition: Derogatory
    Original Balance: $168
    Balance: $0
    Date Opened: 01/21/2004
    Date Reported: 03/19/2006
    Remarks: Transunion Paid Collection

What may have happened here is that Dish Network forwarded your payment to the collection agency. This is sometimes done when the original creditor takes the payment.

If this is the basis of your dispute (account never went to collections), then you may want to dispute this in writing with the CRAs, and submit a copy of the receipt/cancelled check/payment record as "additional evidence". You should dispute citing reason that this account never went to collections.

I paid dish net with a credit card, but I called dish and they said they will forward over some kind proof that I paid the account off to them. I might be able to use that in my dispute, thanks for the guidance on this, you have no idea how much I appreciate the help.

What was the date you paid it, in comparison to the date the CA allegedly opened the account?

Thanks Jlynn, I went with the online dispute. I cited that it never went to collections and I asked them to verify the entire amount. i was wondering if I should have selected that they agreed to remove it but I called Dish and settled everything with them so I think they still owned the account and transunion only lets you have two reasons like some else mentioned. I am going to call their call center on Wednesday and add that information additional information. Would it be worthwhile to send a statement via certified mail, I received a letter from Dish N/echo star that says I have a zero balance so i can add that to the dispute as well. If it was charged off like they are claiming than why would dish say I have a zero balance on the account with them. Hey fellas thanks again for the help and guidance it was greatly appreciated and I am learning a great deal every day from you guys on the path to a much healthier credit score

Thanks to every one that helped me out on this, I just got an e-mail notification that tu removed this thing from my report. I was a little surprised by the turn around time, it was about 24 hours. So i guess that was another benefit to the online process I never considered how quickly it can speed up the process.
