Hi,I'm new here I've been reading on several of your post regarding charge offs. I have credit that I open just to help a family member out I added this person as a authorized user with the conditions they would pay. I never even activated my card. of course the person made 2 payments. I was unaware of it I swore it was being paid I never got a call or letter so I thought. apparently I did receive notices but where intercepted. I finally got a bill dated January 14,2014 stating the account is now in charge off. My first question is should I contact the credit card company and offer a pay for delete letter or wait to hear from a CA?. I have not receive a letter just a monthly bill statement in the amount of $648.00. The value of the credit card was $400. what was used was $300.00the rest is late fee. should I settled for less or pay if all off? Thanks, dragonfly6
Sorry to hear that your FM did that to you. This is tough because as an AU, they are not legally bound to pay the account. Do you share the same address? If the account was charged off in January, it sounds like they stopped making payments probably in June 2013. You can *try* for a PFD for even a GW adjustment where *if* you pay the balance, they re-open the account, and you then show anywhere from 6 to 12 months of good history, they will delete the old late pays. This could be a long shot though, and I'm only familiar with creditors who do this for a one time late fee only. Is your FM at least willing to give you the money to pay off what they did?
And I asked about sharing the same address, because if you did, and those statements/letters were intercepted by the AU who lives with you, and you can prove your card was never activated/never made any of the purchases, this may help tip the scales in your favor in getting the OC to work with you somewhat. Who is the OC BTW?
