I've been fighting with Fingerhut since January. I'VE sent validation letters to the collection agency and they closed the account and gave it back to Fingerhut. I then sent a validation letter and estoppel letter to Fingerhut and they haven't responded, yet, they keep verifying it with the credit bureaus. This is the only collection agency on all three credit bureaus. Question: Should I send them an intent to sue letter or the credit bureaus? This collection is really hurting my scores. Thanks Janet
The problem you are having, and I have seen this before, is that there is nobody responding because fingerhut no longer exists. What little employees they have left could care less about your letters even if they saw them. You need to find the company, and I forget who it was, who bought their accounts and work with them. Fingerhut, bankrupt- you are the weakest link- goodbye
If that's the case, then a ghost must be verifying with the bureaus lol,cuz it keeps coming up verified. When I told the collection agency it wasn't mine, they said they no longer have it now and gave it back to Fingerhut.
Here is a link on what happened w/Fingerhut- I think it says federated bought them. http://www.finance-commerce.com/recent_articles/020418b.htm
I too have been "verified" by Fingerhut within the last 60 days. I contacted Federated via PFB, no response...I'm now at a loss. TU & EQ are not deleting, although I'm sure noone is verifying...what next?
I had this happen with Heilig Meyers and thought they would be easy to have corrected. They took a long time to take care of because they had gone out of business. I finally tracked down (with the help of other creditnetters) their corporate office and was able to leave voice mail for the lady dealing with the situation. She never called me back when she returned from vacation, so I wrote a modified validation letter addressed directly to her. Came off immediately after that. Good luck! L
