Delinquent in 1993? Put it on your credit report now? What did they want, an immediate payment? Your bank account number to do a phone check?

They are threatening to take an action they cannot legally take. FDCPA violation. Read FDCPA, and FCRA.

How did they contact you? By phone? Any letters?
Did they send you a letter within 5 days of first contact notifying you of your right to dispute?

Did they say when it was delinquent? What excuse did they give you to claim it could be put on your credit report?

They lie. What else will they lie about? What other violations will they rack up?

SOL is only if they sue you. As you can see, they know they have little legal leverage, and that is when they use threats and BS.

But if they can't sue you, and they can't put it on your reports, they can't do much to get you to pay other than ask. They can't even legally threaten to do anything they can't legally do, such as threatening to put it on your reports when they can't legally do that.

Under FDCPA, you have the right to tell them to C&D all contact. You can in that same letter tell them that, as they have admitted, the debt went delinquent in 1993, and is past SOL, and that their threat to put it on your reports is a violation of FDCPA. Send it CRRR, so you can show they got it.

If they continue to harrass you, you may have to sue. You can also add FTC and AG complaints. Whatever practices they use on you they are likely using on others.
