I live in Florida and have a collection agency trying to collect a debt from me. This debt is from Florida- do they have to be licensed in the state of florida to collect? I spoke with their attorney yesterday and he said that if they need a license then they probably have it. Can anyone help? TIA
Why are you speaking with these people over the phone. How did you manage to speak with their lawyer. Did you send an intent to sue? I would be very careful talking to these people at all and especially any lawyers that are working for them. Keep it in writing!
They called me, then I asked them if they had license to practice in Florida and they forwarded me to their in house counsel. I still need to know if anyone knows about this license stuff. Thank you
Sam, try checking on this site under florida Dept of State. http://www.nascio.org/statesearch/d...gory=regulation they may also have a phone number listed on the site were you may be able to call the state dept and find out what the requirements are for a company to do business in the state of florida. hope I set this link up right. hope this helps kathy
Sam, I'm sorry I don't think I set this link up right. the link is under my thread "please help". you can access it from there. kathy
You can check on the licensing of attorneys in Florida by either checking the online service provided by the Florida Bar, or by calling them (their number is on the web page). Their web page is easy to use. Not sure of the link, but search under "The Florida Bar". The Secretary of state listing is for collection agencies. Not sure if you wanted to check licensing as an attorney or as a collection agency. If they call again, ask for their Florida Bar number. All attorneys licensed to practice have one. It is a seven digit number.
Thank you all. So, before I go any further, they DO have to be licensed to collect in Florida, right?
