i have a judgment on my credit it says it is to stay on there till oct of next year. it is from a car loan back in 06. i am just wanting some advice on what to do in order to get it off my credit so i can improve my score. any help would be appreciated. thank you and have a good day
i have been reading through the other posts on here i live in Indiana and i think the sol is like 20 years or so. So i am still not sure what my best option would be at this point i do plan on getting a house later on and i know that you cant with a judgment against you. so once again any help would be great thank you once again
It would definitely be a wise decision to clear up the judgment before trying to buy a home. Remember that just because it may fall off your credit report doesn't mean the judgment goes away too. They're public record and any good underwriter will find out about it even if it doesn't show up on your credit reports. Has the judgment creditor ever been in contact with you to try and collect?
also it says on my credit report that the debt is at 11,000 so if i was to call and try and settle if thats my best option then what should i offer them. i dont really work i am a full time student and i have medical school in about a year and a half so i dont have time for work or anything but school.
Well, if you want to take care of it once and for all so you can prepare to apply for a home loan, then you're going to have to get in contact with them again. How big of a judgment are we talking about here, and do you have funds available to settle?
the judgment it for right around 11,000 and i dont have a ton of money to give them most of my money is from grants i get for my schooling and working only part time. so i could offer them like 1500 to take it off but i doubt that will be anywhere close to enough money. thank you for your responses
$1,500 probably won't get you very far in negotiations with them. Frankly, if they're not on your back right now, I wouldn't initiate contact. Focus on saving money instead, and hopefully it drops off your credit reports next year.
