I am in the reserves and was called to active duty under Operation Enduring Freedom. Well, I set up autopayment option to pay my bills. Well, the military was very late in starting to pay me and consequently my checking account was overdrawn. The amount of the check was covered by overdraft protection however, I owe the bank for check amount and fees. They sent me numerous letter to my old address while I was overseas and eventually it was sent to a collections agency named NCO Financial. Well, I recently came back and found out that my checking account was closed and that the collection agency placed an entry into my credity report. Well, I spoke with my bank and they agreed to take payment instead of me dealing with the credit agency. However they said that the credit report entry could not be removed because the collection agency placed it, however they could update it after full payment. Now my question is can one pay the bank and then after payment dispute the entry on the credit report with the collection agency? Does anyone have any advice or suggestions? BTW, this is the only bad mark I have on my credit report if that is relevant.
