Hi, I have an acct that is being reported a 90 days past due, incorrectly. I had challenged this but finally the Direct Loan people have decided that I was correct in stating that it wasnt past due, it was in forebearance. So anyway, they say they are removing the negative mark from my CR. They told me this 2/1/02 and sent a confirmation letter a week later. As of today, it is still on my credit report (Experian). I received a general letter from Direct Loans saying that they are going to remove this negative mark from my credit, so I am assuming it is simply a matter of the credit bureaus not bothering to update yet. Should I go ahead and dispute with the credit bureaus to "speed this along" or just be patient?
If you're wanting to dispute, don't do it online. Mail your dispute along with the proof letter you received from Direct Loan, that way the CRA cannot come back and say "we verified 90 days late" Sometimes the CRA's like to wait until the past possible day to update because the information is in your favor, not theirs.
