I am currently sitting on a 625 FICO score that has been steadily moving up during this past year. I have done this without the use of disputes. After reading so many of the posts in this forum, I know that I probably need to dispute the negative items on my report. Since I currently do not have access to any credit, I am thinking that it might be the right time to apply for some. My current goal is to move past the 660 level, ultimately deep into the 700s, and maybe touch that 800 level. So what should be my immediate focus? What going to have the most immediate impact? Thanks in advance.
Since you know what your score is, I'm guessing you have a copy of your CR. You are right that you need to do 2 things: build good credit and erase negatives on CR. Is there a reason you have not disputed so far? How have you been able to get your scores to rise so far? Do you have any bankrupcies or judgements? I think it's hard to say what to do without knowing more, because there are so many things to consider. These are some general tips that I have learned. Check your CR's. Also check your state's SOL (statute of Limitations). For accounts that are past SOL, I would dispute them - ehhh, hmmm, they may not be yours. I believe that when you start working with your CR, it kinda wakes up some sleeping accounts that may be inside SOL - keep that in mind, then decide. There are easy credit cards to get for scores in your range. There is another thread now about Crown's Jewler's, but there are others. Easy gas cards, easy store cards. I would start with one of those (not 10 of those - 1, maybe 2) You could also get a prepaid card, but be sure it will convert to a reg. card over time, and be sure they report to all 3 CRA's. Keep paying things on time - be careful not to add negatives. Hope that helps. Good Luck. NOTE: I am not one of the experts here. If anyone would like to correct anything I've said here, feel free.
