2 quick questions. I'm not sure if anyone would know the answer to this one. I had a credit card mistakenly go into collections (due to me moving and not receiving the bill). I now have an R9 because of it. I have another credit card in decent standing - it is usually paid on time (never over a month late). I also pay all of my other bills on time including my current rent.

    1) I'm looking to move to a new apartment and I was wondering how much this R9 will affect me. Should I get a co-signer? How "bad" will this look on me? (I have a room mate with good credit...as an fyi)

    2) If I were to check my credit score online...will that affect my credit score?

Thanks! I apologize if these seem like random questions.

1.) It may not affect you at all if your credit score still falls within the landlord's guidelines for new renters. I'm sure the negative listing has hurt your score, but you generally don't need "perfect" credit to lease an apartment. So, check your credit score online first, and then ask the new landlord if they have a specific requirement for credit scores.

2.) You can check your own credit score as often as you like and it never affects your scores.
