Has anyone been able to resolve a similar experience? I defaulted on a Cross Country Bank Visa about 8 years ago -- CCB opened up a "new" account on their own to re-age the debt, then sold it to Sherman Acquisitions. Sherman has listed, and verified w/all 3 bureaus an opening date of 10/02 for this account. I'm going crazy with this -- I have three listings on my experian report (two on EQ and TU) -- all based on the same crappy credit card. Yes, I screwed up, but this is ridiculous -- the card had a $300 limit when I defaulted and it has caused three (FYI -- the only three) negatives on my credit report. Here's how it's listed as of today: Account Name: CROSS COUNTRY BANK Account Number: XXXXXXXX0311 Acct Type: Credit Card - Revolving Terms Acct Status: Closed Monthly Payment: Date Open: 8/1/1996 Balance: Terms: Revolving High Balance: Limit: $350.00 Past Due: Payment Status: Charge-off Account Name: CROSS COUNTRY BANK Account Number: XXXXXXXX6175 Acct Type: Credit Card - Revolving Terms Acct Status: Closed Monthly Payment: Date Open: 8/1/1996 Balance: $599.00 Terms: Revolving High Balance: $599.00 Limit: Past Due: $599.00 Payment Status: Charge-off Comments: Transferred to another lender or claim purchased Account Name: SHERMAN ACQUISITION Account Number: XXXXXXXXXXXX2247 Acct Type: Unknown - Credit Extension, Review, Or Collection Acct Status: Closed Monthly Payment: Date Open: 10/1/2002 Balance: $735.00 Terms: 1 Month High Balance: Limit: Past Due: $735.00 Payment Status: Seriously past due date / assigned to attorney, collection agency, or credit grantor's internal collection department This is all the same card!! I have been researching this board for the past week trying to figure out what to do, but I need help!! Can someone please, please, please, point me in the right direction (i.e. show me the right links for letters to send to sherman, etc.) to deal with this? Pleeeeease? Thank y'all in advance, Tina
"Sherman has listed, and verified w/all 3 bureaus an opening date of 10/02 for this account" -You need to DISPUTE the "original date of delinquency" with the reporting agencies. The "opening" date IS IRRELEVENT. -Include in your dispute that you beleive the "original date of delinquency" was "8 years ago (include the date) and as such, the accounts are "obsolete" and request deletion -The 7 year reporting period begins from the original date of delinquency (give or take a few months). -IF you disputed the "opening date" with the credit reporting agency, they pretty much CAN PROPERLY verify it. -IF the 3 listings are for the same account, you can also include in the dispute that ONE of the original creditors listings is a duplicate. -Unfortunately you have to be VERY SPECIFIC in your disputes.
8/1998, I think. It could be even farther back. Sherman is listing it as 10/2002, however. Where do I start with this?
Sherman is listing the "open date" as 2002. THIS IS NOT the orginal date of delinquency. "I defaulted on a Cross Country Bank Visa about 8 years ago" -So it was 1998 OR 8 years ago?? -You need to DISPUTE the "original date of delinquency" with the reporting agencies. The "opening" date IS IRRELEVENT for the reporting period. -Include in your dispute that you beleive the "original date of delinquency" was "8 years ago (include the date) and as such, the accounts are "obsolete" and request deletion IF IT WAS 8 YEARS AGO! -The 7 year reporting period begins from the original date of delinquency (give or take a few months).

I had the exact same problem with Sherman regarding Citibank. I just disputed as "not mine" and it was deleted on the first round. Give it a try.
