I did a DV letter and the CA sent the documents from the OC. The documents show that the date I stopped making payments was march 2004. The CA that is now trying to collect the debt opened a file on my credit report in july 2006. My question is shouldn't. This come of my report in march of this year? If they go by the july 2006 isn't that re aging? What should I do? They sent me copies with all the dates from the OC that I can back up my claim.
Are you just saying the CA first started reporting a collection on your credit reports in July 2006? The date of first delinquency is what you should be looking for to determine when this will fall off your reports. My guess is the July 2006 date you're referencing is the date of last activity, which I wouldn't worry about. DOFD is what matters.
Yeah I'm trying to see if I should do a pfd or let it fall off. According to there validation they sent me it should drop off neft month. On my experian credit report it says the CA name then it says date opened 7-1-2006. I'm just wondering how the CRA knows. About the original delinquincy date? Do I need to dispute and send them copies of what proof I have?
Not all credit reports will include the DOFD, but I believe CA's are required to report it to the CRAs when they report a collection. If the report does show a DOFD or something similar that you believe is incorrect, then yes- I would definitely dispute it. The DOFD should never change, regardless of how many times the debt changes hands.
