The PBM recently asked members to show restraint in dialogue, providing examples of language that PBM finds below the standards of CreditNet. Many of the words PBM mentioned were said by me in one context or another. I have been the victim of a Providian scam APR increase, to name one frustrating incident, as well as CRA shortcomings, which includes repeated and unsuccessful attempts to access my online credit reports. I hope I have not offended anyone on the board with the use of descriptive language that suits my needs of the moment. On the other hand, I meant every word I said.
You have not offended me as you have explained your frustration. However, pbm is correct that we need to avoid foul language as it really is inappropriate. I pledge to never use foul language here on the board. We all are here for credit help and there is no room for bad language. On a lighter note, I can understand thinking some foul words about the CRA's and collection agencies. But we must never use foul language against one another or engage in flame wars. That would defeat the purpose of the board.
Well said. We've all had issues with banks, CRA's, CA's, etc. That's why most of us are here. We're here to share our experiences, and seek help from others. I'm sure every one of us at one time or another has thought of several "choice" words we could call the CRA's, CA's, etc., but we limit ourselves, and our words because those "choice words" have no place on this board. This is pbm's board, he has the right to set the rules, and if we want to be a part of his community here, we need to abide by what he asks of us. Also, like King pointed out, we're here to help one another, and by engaging in these "flame wars" we're only hurting the purpose of the board.
King - Thank you for your understanding. I swear to you, I never felt so upset in my life. I pledge not to let my feelings dictate to me again. When we do use inappropiate language, as you put it, the other guys win.
Thanks mindcrime. I certainly wasn't attacking anyone with my comments. I was just agreeing with pbm and felice. Now you have agreed with me. Maybe I shouldn't have brought up the flame war thing since I have seen very little of it I really enjoy creditnet and hope everyone else does too.
Felice, I haven't been a saint either. I just feel that pbm is right and we should all get along here at creditnet. Please keep posting. It would be a loss for the board if anyone got the wrong idea about pbm's message to us all and quit the board. We need all of our credit challenged brothers and sisters here. Otherwise how will we learn anything.
***DITTO*** TO EVERYTHING SAID. CREDITNET IS MY HERO! :0) THANKS PBM (AND THE REST OF YOU) FOR EVERYTHING YOU DO TO MAKE THIS SITE SO EDUCATIONAL & INFORMATIVE! YOUR HARD WORK IS NOT OVERLOOKED, I PROMISE!
I'm one of the new kids in town but I think I understand what happened. We have built barriers into society to keep us from getting tooo intermeshed in each other's personal affairs. Sometimes we get so comfortable with people that we drop some of those societal barriers, such as the implicit prohibition against foul language. If we've gotten comfortable enough with each other to cuss around each other that's one thing. However we've got to remember that Creditnet is a public forum and that, in public, it's not OK to cuss, regardless of whether you're talking to your best friend or not. I'm guilty too. Thanks for keeping us straight, pbm. I appreciate all that you are doing in providing this forum. Sincerely, Dancer
