I got an AT&T platinum card and a CITI platinum at about the same time, with the same BT terms (0.0% for 9 months), and the same CL...however, the AT&T purchase APR was higher. I have had them both one year. I have called several times to try and negotiate better terms, and CITI has increased my CL and lowered my APR twice, just last week to 7.65%. AT&T will NOT budge. Also, I find AT&Ts customer service reps to be rude. I am seriously considering merging my AT&T CL into my CITI account, and just throwing the AT&T card in the very bottom of the sock drawer. There was a post on here yesterday stating that it doesn't help to close an account, or I would probably close it. If you don't really NEED this particular card, I suggest you try for another CITI card instead.
LKH, Universal City is actually Citibank (SD),NA which issues AT&T Universal Mastercard. They pulled credit from TransUnion.(in Texas). Ron.
LKH, I just received their AT&T card - 0% interest for 12 months, and no BT fees as long as the intro rate is in effect. So far they are okay. Customer service is helpful (I have only spoken to one rep...so I don't know if this counts). My interest rate goes to 9.74% after the introductory expires (based on prime rate +4.99%-variable rate). Only complaint...small CL compared to what a typical Citibank would give. Instead of $10 or $15K through Citibank, AT&T Universal will give you 4K or 6K. Dani
"Also, I find AT&Ts customer service reps to be rude." AT&T Universal and Citi card reps are one in the same, so you would be talking to the same people.
greyfox, Your technically right. Although the AT&T Universal is issued by Universal Bank, a subsidary of Citibank. They have different reps because they are in different locations. The call is directed to someone else. An example, is Amex Blue and Amex Green. Two different 800 numbers, because Amex has their own customer service department for each card (meaning the call is transferred to someplace in the country...sometimes N.J., sometimes Washington State, etc depending on the card). Although the reps work under Citibank each card has a different personnel/cust rep department. Calling AT&T will have your concerns addressed by someone different than a call to Citibank for their Platinum Select Card. Hope this helps. Dani
"Although the reps work under Citibank each card has a different personnel/cust rep department. Calling AT&T will have your concerns addressed by someone different than a call to Citibank for their Platinum Select Card." That's not completely accurate, and you may be wondering how I know, but I won't tell you If you call the AT&T 1-800-423-4343, that # will ring into Citi's 1-800-950-5114. It is correct to say that you could reach a different location(call center) every time you call the 800#'s, for example: Jacksonville, South Dakota, Nevada, Maryland, Kentucky, Delaware...
I have both cards also. A few months ago, I attempted to consolidate my Plat Select and Universal card. I was told at one point that I was speaking with a Citi rep, even though I called Universal's number. She stated that they (Citi) were receiving Universal's overflow calls from Jacksonville, and she was not as familiar with Universal's products. She suggested I call back later and I might be connected with a Universal rep. Before I get flamed, yes, I know that they are both Citibank reps.
