Last year I rejoiced because I disputed a student loan Dept. of Ed. late-pay. Equifax investigated, Dept of Ed presumably failed to verify in time, and Equifax removed the tradeline in Jan of 2003, sending me confirmation.

I checked my credit report today and find that the late pays are back on. CRA says the late pays were reported in Jan of 2003. How can this be? If Dept. of Ed. verifies in its own sweet time but not within the 30 day time frame, the late pays go back on?

    Nope.

It's a violation unless you get notified.

I would wait 10 days (5 days for them to print the re-insertion notice, and 5 days for the mail) to see if you get the re-insertion notice.

Then I would send them a copy of the deletion report from them, and a notice that they willfully and knowingly illegally re-inserted a disputed item without providing a notice of re-insertion; and they must re-delete the disputed tradeline at once.
