I've been reading for weeks to make sure I start this correctly, and I'm almost ready to begin. I still have questions: 1) I have CA accounts scheduled to come off in 2003-2005. Should I validate all, or wait to let recent ones fall off? 2) I'm not completely clear on what to do after I validate with CA and verify with CRA when green card comes back. It's some kind of violation for CA to verify with CRA if I'm disputing with CA? How do I monitor if the CRA verified? Or if the CA verified? This is where I start to get confused. I don't know what I'm looking for or how to look for it. 3) With the debts being 5-7 years old, is the validate/verify the best approach, or would a simple dispute with CRA delete them? It makes my head spin when I try to figure this out. I've tried taking a break and coming back the next day hoping it would be clearer, but no such luck. I hope someone can walk me through the next steps.
Its strictly up to you. What are your goals? Are you trying to buy a house and need these off? 1. Send validation to CA, when green card comes back, dispute with CRA. The logic is they cannot verify without validating. The only thing they can do is mark it in dispute, which 99% don't do. If they don't it is a violation, and you use that later as leverage for deletion. These old ones will hopefully just get deleted. Most of us monitor our CRs thru online services. You will also get a new report and results of investigation from CRA's around 30 days after dispute. Its a crapshoot. If you have time, you can go straight thru CRAs first, but if they verify, then you get to start all over. I prefer one-stop shopping! Have patience, it will become clearer. I am a visual person, so it really became clearer for me after my first Round. Then everything I was reading here, I saw sitting on my desk!
No, I'm not in a hurry for any reason. I sign the court papers for my ch7 filing today, so I thought I'd try and dispute what I can off my reports before the notices go out and update them to "incl in bk". I thought if I can get some off before they go out it will be easier than disputing them after the filing and discharge. Is there a letter I should search for that is sent to CRA or CA about verifying while in dispute? Is this the ITS letter? I think it may be clearer for me after I get the letters out, but from all I've read about making sure I know what my next steps are, I'm a little worried that I don't completely understand what I need to do, and may drop the ball.
Others may disagree, but if you are filing BK, I would wait until after the discharge to start credit repair. You are going to have BK fallout on your report, and you might be spinning your wheels at this point. You really don't want anything updated to INCL in BK if you can avoid it. You want it gone! Rule No. 1 - Never, never, never send a CRA BK papers.
