REALLY old debt...Which letter should I send?

Newbie here - Well, sort of...

Many moons ago I had credit issues and this wonderful site helped me straighten it all out and get back on track. Since then I've bought a house, am debt free, yada, yada.

So, what prompted me to re-register here? I received a collection letter in the mail today from Afni, Inc. on behalf of Bell Atlantic for $522.00. I have never had a $500+ telephone bill in my life AND Bell Atlantic has been defunct for many, many years. I can only assume that this bill was an unpaid phone bill and it has somehow collected interest. The last time I was a Bell Atlantic customer was in 1997. There's no way I'm paying this - should I sent the validation letter or is there some kind of statute of limitations law I can cite? I'm in NY. Thanks for the help!

Just sent the normal validation request. Anderson Financial is pretty bad with zombie debt and they're probably hoping you'll bite.

    It's too old to report.
