About 30 minutes ago I received 2 calls from a specific number, I ignored the first call and checked later for a message, no message. About 10 minutes later I received the second call. I answered the phone on the second call and asked who was calling. It was dead silence for about 30 seconds then a phone message came on informing me this was a very important call for "XXXXXXXX", if I was "XXXXXXXX" press 1, if I was not "XXXXXXXX" press 2. I immediately hung up the phone. The name which appeared on my phone's CID was "DIR ASST-OK", the number which appeared on my phone's caller ID was 1-405-555-0199. I Googled the number and Google came back with hundreds of hits saying the number was from a collection agency. Has anyone else received a call from this number and if they call again do what? Just ignore the call? Would it do me any good to report the number to the National Do Not Call Registry?
I wouldn't answer again. Has this CA ever sent you anything in writing? Are they reporting anything on your credit reports yet?
I guess I should order a copy of my current credit report. Would this CA's name and address appear in my CR as well as the past due, long since charged off CC debt which I think they might have been calling about? A major CC debt which had a DOLA in 2002. SOL for unsecured CC debt in my state the last time I check was 3 years for MS. Which CRA report is the best to purchase? Experian? Equifax? TransUnion?
It would be a good idea to pull your credit reports just to see if anything's being reported regarding this debt. If not, that's great. But if it is, you should be able to find the CA's name and address so you can send them a letter informing them that the SOL has expired. By the way, you can get all 3 of your credit reports for free from www.annualcreditreport.com.
http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-405-555-0199 provided a good lead. Also provides some great insight into how they work... Can't say conclusively whether it is this company, but it sounds like them.
