File a complaint with the BBB and the FTC, next step Attorney General. Anyone had any success by complaining to any of these organizations regarding Asset Acceptance?
As of yet it has not helped my situation.. I filed with the BBB concerning Asset. They are investigating but said it would take so many days and to wait....Its still under investigation status on Ex but they only have a few more days to meet the 30 day mark. I have the feeling it will get deleted before the BBB gets a chance to turn any screws to them.. I will update any progress as it happens frioguy
You can't know up front what will work, so you may have to go down multiple paths. And if you actually get resolution, it is appropriate to leave tracks, both on BBB reports, and in AG and FTC complaint files, so that a day of reckoning may come.
My qoal is to create a trail. I have sent 2 DVs. Neither have been responded to. I have disputed and they verified. On experian, they have added 5 additional years of reporting. I called Experian and inquired and they are reinvestigating. The Exp Rep could see that the original creditor (Sprint) listed a default date of 2001, while Asset Acceptance is reporting an Opening Date of 2005. She wouldn't address the fact that they are also listing it as an installment and listing themselves as a factoring company. Those folks are criminal. I am assuming that they will have to answer the BBB or the FTC and that info will be forwarded to me. I want something from a 3rd party to send along with my credit report, to the Attorney General. At one point, I would have been willing to pay for delete or open to a reduced settlement. Not now. Can't trust them. I need evident to take to an attorney that will be willing to take case on contingency. I don't care much about the money. I want these BS listings removed.
Particularly where deliberate erroneous reporting or re-aging is involved, state AGs and FTC may be your best ally. On top of the FDCPA and FCRA issues, it fits under the general catagory of unfair and deceptive business practices, and if systematically employed, is likely to involve numerous individual cases that can accumulate large fines once they start investigating and requesting information. Asset finally removed.Yea but Did BBB help??? In a follow up to your asking about the BBB being any help.. . I finally got Asset removed off of my Exp CR after a struggle.. I,m not sure if it was my letter to the BBB or if it just went past the 30 day time frame.I also had sent a complaint to BBB about Exp to put pressure on them as well...I,m not really sure which one did the trick but I,ll take what I can get.. I,ll be keeping a close watch to see if they try reinsertion. Keep the pressure on them. Maybe a letter to the BBB will help your situation also. I,m going to be trying the same approach with my wifes report. And Yes Asset is in the line of fire. Keep at it.You,ll get there also. frioguy
With BBB, if you haven't received a reply within the expected time, follow up with them, in writing. Sometimes a company will tell them they have resolved the consumer's issue, and BBB will log it as resolved, even when no action was even taken.
