I was just wondering - Four years ago, my mom co-signed for a Cap1 account for me. Cap1 merely added me as an AU, and listed her as the co-signer. They refuse to remove her from the account, and insist that the only way to get her removed is for me to apply for a new Cap1 card, get approved, have the Co-sign account closed, and have the history transferred to the new account. My goal is to turn that AU into an "Individual User" account with minimal damage to my CR. I don't want a closed account on my history, so I'm reluctant to close the account. Is there any way to dispute to the CRs that I'm no longer an AU and insist that they remove the account? I've seen a few success threads on that topic, but have seen an equal number of failures (stubborn bureaus). It's not a bad card, I could leave it at it's 9.9% APR and $2,000 limit AU and sock drawer it. Or I could close it entirely. What's the best way to go?
