Does any one have experience removing a RELEASED federal tax lien? Lien was not recertified at end of lien period, 10/95. IRS issued a release of lien per my request 03/02. CRA refused to remove stating"paid tax lien" rules. This lien was neither paid, nor can any longer qualify as unpaid, due to IRS re-certification regulations. Any suggestions??
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news - paid tax liens can be reported for 7 yrs from the date paid. Unpaid tax liens have no limit, even though they have been released. You can, however, make them report it as "released." Also, this may help you, it relates to investigative reports (such as employment or licensing of some sort, not ordinary credit reports): http://www.ftc.gov/os/statutes/fcra.htm#605 (3) Certain public record information. Except as otherwise provided in section 613 [§ 1681k], a consumer reporting agency shall not furnish an investigative consumer report that includes information that is a matter of public record and that relates to an arrest, indictment, conviction, civil judicial action, tax lien, or outstanding judgment, unless the agency has verified the accuracy of the information during the 30-day period ending on the date on which the report is furnished.
