Removing Charge offs

I've been lurking for about a month, and think I'll finally get started on my credit repair. My wife has 2 charge-offs on her CR, but both accounts have actually been paid in full. GMAC put 2 payments that she was behind on onto the back of the loan, which has since been paid off, and HQ home improvement store was paid in full through CCCS. Question: Should I call GMAC, send a letter, or send a letter to the CRAs? As far as HQ, they are out of business, and a financial co. is handling the affairs. How should I handle the tradeline? I have more questions, but this should get me started.

    Thanks..................Jim

I would start with simple disputes first - on the paid chargeoffs - not mine.

GMAC? Is it just reporting a couple of lates and is otherwise a good TL? If you dispute that you run the risk of the whole TL being deleted. You might start with a goodwill letter to them.

Thanks for the response. GMAC shows 30 days past due 7 times, and under that it states "Charged Off Account."

When GMAC puts payments on the tail end of your loan, they are not supposed to be reported as late. That's what they told me!
