I have 2 charge offs that are paid and I'm having a heck of a time getting rid of them. One of them is Capital One, that will fall off in 2/2003 and FNANB (Circuit City) which will fall off in 6/2005. I settled on both of these accts. Experian won't take either off, EQ changed it from being a charge off to 2-90 day late payments, and TU is still investigating. Anyone had any luck with these damn charge offs?

Try contacting the creditor instead of the reporting agency. ASK TO SPEAK WITH A MANAGER... Explain that you made a mistake, but you've corrected it but are having a hard time moving forward. Ask for them to delete the informaton or maybe even try to open the account as "unrated" for a period of time... Try to give them a win-win.... Getting a customer would be nice....

Write Capital One via Planetfeedback. If you pay off the remaining balance on your Capital One settled charge-off, they will delete the charge-off, and even open a new account for you.

Several here have had GREAT success doing this through plantefeeback.com with Mr.Cooke and Mr.Miller.

I was 'this close' to having a deal to get my BK7 Cap One ac**** taken off but the legal dept (!@#$@ lawyers) would not let them.....sooooo close.

Very kind men, all CC companies should have 'real' people like these two.

Anybody can do anything... you just have to give the right reason to the right person who is in the right mood.... Lay the ground work....

As for Shawn's advice of using PFB.... I think everybody's success with that deals with approvals on new accounts or credit limit increases.... I don't the mgn'ers who respond will have the authority....

    bkev,

It depends on the company. For me, wrt to a Citibank paid charge off, I faxed a letter to the Citi credit bureau dept. and e-mailed the same letter via PFB to Citibank, N.A. on the same day.

The response from the credit bureau dept came a week later and was an emphatic "no". TThe response to my PFB e-mail came the next day from the Office of the President. They overrode what the credit bureau dept. had written (they knew that response before I did).

Furthermore, the person who actually authorized the update to the CRAs (I know this b/c Equifax told me who submitted the deletion) was named "K. Aberson", as in Kathy Aberson on all those credit correspondence letters people get from Citibank.

She's the immediate supervisor of the person who contacted me from the Office of the President according to that person.

So, it depends on the set up of the company who receives the PFB letters.

    Marci:

That great info! Thanks for sharing... I agree that it depends upon who is answering the PFB responses at the company. I was talking about Capital One and the mgn'ers who respond.
