    Hi Everyone.

I'm behind in reading posts...we're still looking for a place to move...but I wanted to let you know what's been happening with the town house. (I had posted about it here last week.)

The bottom line is that it's been over a week and we still don't know anything. The leasing agency is terrible about returning calls! The last time we spoke with anyone was last Friday. We were told then that our application was still in the running and the town house was being vacated this past weekend. (maybe *soon* we can get an anser?) Apparently, more work than was initially anticipated needs to be done so the availability date has been delayed.

Also, our landlord called us. He was quite upset because the leasing office had called for a rental verification. That would have been fine but we hadn't told him we were planning to move yet. So then I had to apologize and explain that nothing had been finalized. In fact, we didn't even know if we had been approved yet. He seemed a little calmer when we hung up. hehehe I guess the poor guy isn't looking forward to showing the place and interviewing prospective renters again. But, hey, if you own rentals that's all part of the job.

So my husband and I are still on pins and needles. We don't know whether the place is ours or not. The truth is we haven't even been inside this particular town house yet. However, we have been in another place inside the complex and we're told it's very similar.

We hurried and put our application in because we wanted to be first in line. This probably sounds silly to many of you but the location is ideal.

My husband and I are both legally blind andd therefore don't drive. (hehehehehe Here in Southern Cal, though, we could probably get away with driving.) The town house is only a mile from where hubby works and just half a block from a bus line so I could get to my office. Restaurants and shopping are nearby. This place is ideal! If only we would hear something soon! The rent is within our budget and other places we looked at were not as good a match.

Of course, we won't finalize any agreement until we've toured the place. A friend of one of my husband's co-workers owns one of the town houses in this particular complex and she was kind enough to let us walk through. The woman said she thought the place we're considering is probably very similar.

So that's the update. Basically we're still waiting. I'm getting very anxious. Please keep thinking positive thoughts for us.

    Donna,

I'm still praying for you re the townhome.

It is funny that you mentioned getting away with driving in California while blind. I think anybody can drive there.

Just this morning I was riveted to FOX News as they followed a man who was leading police in a speed chase in a tow truck. The truck was on fire, 5 out of 6 wheels were stripped down to the rims, and this guy was still going when I turned the TV off.

I hope he didn't kill himself or someone else.

Thanks much, Marci, for your support. I sure appreciate it. If only we would hear something soon. That would be such a relief!

WOW! Some idiot was chasing the police in a tow truck and the truck was on fire? That's incredible! Even for California! I must have already left for work when all of this was going on. When I get home, I'll be sure to listen to the news for an update.

    Take care and thanks again.

Sorry, no... the police were chasing him (I guess the other way around would be odd, even for California). It happened in the San Jose community.

    Marci,

hehehehe Can't believe I typed that. Believe it or not, I had understood what you meant the first time but just didn't pay close enough attention when I was typing. The truth is I was distracted, trying to do too many things at once.

Anyway, I asked one of my co-workers if they had seen or heard about the chase. Apparently all of the action was somewhere in the Inglewood area.

    Thanks.

    Woops! :-O

I'm sure after you explain to him that this place is a better location for you in light of your blindness, he should understand. My prayers are with you. Good luck!

Thanks, MP$40. I appreciate your good thoughts.

Yes, after I explained things to our landlord, he was a bit calmer. We just took him by surprise; that's all. I've been renting from him for over five years now and I think he thought I was going to stay there forever.

When I took the apartment, I was single and everything worked out fine. But, now that there are two of us, we're uncomfortable. We just have to find a bigger place. Storage is extremely limited and our closets are jammed!

This town house would be great. The commute will be longer for me but at least I would be very near the bus line. Also, any kitchen has to be bigger than the one we have now.

Hi, Donna, sending happy Texas thoughts to you! Hope to see your good news post soon!

I saw parts of that tow truck chase...sheesh, what a brainiac!

Thanks so much, Mom and NanaC. Your kind thoughts and words of support mean a lot.

I'm trying to think positive. If the agency really didn't want to rent to us, I don't think they would have gone to the trouble of doing a rental verification. Our landlord really likes hubby and me and I'm sure he gave us a good reference.

Even prior to handing in our application, these folks have been difficult to get in touch with. I don't like that. If we do get this place, hopefully will be instructed to call someone different should any problems arise. You can bet we'll find that out. The suspense is killing me, though.

    Hope,

Thanks for your good thoughts, too. Somehow I missed your response earlier when I was arrowing through.

And, George you are so kind. Currentlly, we live in the Valley. My husband works at CSUN and I'm in the downtown area.

The commute from Northridge to downtown would be a challenge but I think I could manage it. Half a block from our prospective place, there's a stop where I could catch a commuter bus and it would take the freeway most of the way in.

The thought of living in a house is incredibly enticing. The commute would be doable for me but Hubby would have a tough time.

Believe me! We're sure dreaming of a house, though. In another year,we're hoping maybe we can buy. That's why we've been sticking it out where we currently are for this long. The rent is good and we've been able to save. However, now our endurance has peaked and we've gotta find a place with more space.

Again, thanks a bunch. You are so kind and thoughtful. I'm sure glad you've become a 700 club member.
