Reopening accounts - does it add history length?

I'm trying to clean up my accounts, and realised that I had a Cap One account that was closed in good standing before I knew anything. I know it's a long shot, but I've seen different answers in my search of the forum.

The account has been closed for a few years now. IF I can get them to "re-open" the account, will it show as my longest account, back to it's original start date in 2001? This was one of my earliest accounts and it would be nice to add it on.

    Thanks!

First of all, they will not reopen the old account. If you really want another account with them you will have to apply for the new account.
Depending on how long sgo you closed the account, your previous history with them might still float around in their database, but you will still have to apply for a new card.

One more thing - they will perform a hard pull on your credit again.

For a new account, it is very likely that it will be a hard pull.

thanks! I thought it was a pipe dream, but saw one post from a search that sounded like someone had gotten an old account reopend.

Sometimes you can re-open an account, so it does not hurt to ask them.

Just that the older it gets the less likely they will.
